The Fall - a Thriller in progress

"I'll be brief," said the voice from the corner. "Your country needs you." Here it comes, he thought, sipping the tea. It was spiced with mint, which surprised him. They always invoked patriotism before asking for the sacrifice. It was familiar, and if he wanted to be honest, comforting. "We took a heavy blow that day," the voice continued. That was an understatement. "We're still reeling. We thought that striking back was the answer, but we're hitting with an open fist. They've still got the upper hand." There was no need to fill in any details. He knew them, Hell, everybody knew the details. But there was something they weren't telling him. Only men with secrets hid in the dark. "Six days ago, one of our Special Ops teams intercepted a cell before they detonated a nuclear warhead on the mainland," said the man in the corner. "For security reasons, we didn't go public with that information." ...

Angelino - First impressions

The drive in was murder.   In Oklahoma City, I was caught in a tornado, one funnel cloud off to my left, and an updraft circling directly above me.   The radio screamed “If you are near I-40 and War Acres, seek shelter now!!”   I look up and the next sign I read says War Acres exit.   But I made it through that adventure, driving straight through the desert, the mountains, the long dark night, all to arrive just after rush hour in LA.             Coming through San Bernadino, I saw a lady in an minivan with a child standing in the front passenger seat.   With one hand she was wiping the child’s mouth, the other she used to put lipstick on her own, she was talking on a cell phone cradled in the crook of her neck, and whipping through traffic to boot.   I have to admit, I was a little turned on, I mean, imagine the thigh strengt...

How do you get information to people who make decisions?

Give $2 trillion to the bottom 100 million workers, ranked by pay.  Divide it by six months so it's spread out.  That's $20,000 per person. Or $3,333 per month. BOOM! Massive spending in the economy Companies will have to work overtime to match the demand More people will be hired immediately Velocity of money will go up (i.e., you spend a dollar on a newspaper, the newspaper guy spends that dollar on coffee = $2 in GDP growth. That's a velocity of 2). States will gain tax revenues because of the higher velocity of money (than if you give it to companies) and because companies will be busier than ever. That's it. That's what the next stimulus should be. Why only $2 trillion? Because this is not a gift. This is to replace the money lost. This will do it. Consumer spending is 70% of the GDP. Not States. Not Corporations. Not fat cats on the taxpayer funded corporate welfare program. It's easy to end this Trump Depression. Just give the money to the people who spen...

How are you doing in the Covid Quarantine?

Image
Add caption   Hey it’s Chris,   How are you doing?   The Quarantine restrictions are starting to go up, and we’re headed back toward a new normal.   I’m not sure what that means, yet.   Part of me doesn’t want to go back to the way things were.  I see pictures of a smog-less Los Angeles, shots of animals wandering the streets and people hanging out together, even if it’s online.   It’s like a huge reset button.   We didn’t get hit too hard here, and they’re opening things back up. I’ve watched traffic increase, and stress from friends increase as they worry about their job, this recession, food shortages, TP shortages and stuff that might happen.   Murder Hornet Attacks!   I try to remind them that the big winner of the Covid Crisis was the Media.  With no work and everything shut down, people turned to the NEWS to get information.   And the NEWS loved it. They had all the eyeballs on them after years of dec...

One Page Marketing Plan for Mystery Thriller Writers

One Page Marketing Plan for Mystery Thriller Writers   -Steal this page-   I wrote a novel ( A PINT OF PROBLEMS ) about a drunk lawyer fighting to get his life back after the world turned against him.   It’s part of an outlined series, with 30k written in book 2 and 20k done in book 3, plus books 4,5 & 6 outlined.   This is a new genre for me and one I decided to dive into after getting some good response on a Minimally Viable Product put up last file.   My normal wheelhouse is MILITARY SCIENCE FICTION with some POST APOC and URBAN FANTASY series that do well and get good reception.   But I wanted to tell this story.   The questions were:   Do I use a pen name so I don’t pollute the algorithm?   How do I find readers who like this style? (Southern Noir, mystery)   How do I grow this series to a respectable income stream?   Here’s what I did:   Made a crappy cover. Wrote a kick ass...
