How are you doing in the Covid Quarantine?

Hey it’s Chris,

 How are you doing?

The Quarantine restrictions are starting to go up, and we’re headed back toward a new normal.

I’m not sure what that means, yet.

Part of me doesn’t want to go back to the way things were.  I see pictures of a smog-less Los Angeles, shots of animals wandering the streets and people hanging out together, even if it’s online.

It’s like a huge reset button.

We didn’t get hit too hard here, and they’re opening things back up. I’ve watched traffic increase, and stress from friends increase as they worry about their job, this recession, food shortages, TP shortages and stuff that might happen.

 Murder Hornet Attacks!

I try to remind them that the big winner of the Covid Crisis was the Media.  With no work and everything shut down, people turned to the NEWS to get information.

And the NEWS loved it. They had all the eyeballs on them after years of declining ratings.

The NEWS took advantage of it. They made ominous danger graphics and interviewed overwhelmed doctors and nurses.  They highlighted ALL the bad things, cause that’s what we paid attention to and it got them ratings.

 Except…

New York was bad.  (It’s where most of the news is headquartered, so of course they’re gonna highlight what’s happening in their backyard.)

CA was bad.  My brother lives in Los Angeles and said it wasn’t a big deal. Folks stayed home. He played with his kids all the time. The weather was nice.

The rest of America did okay.

I’m in Arkansas. We’ve had 95 people die.  Out of 4,000 infected. Against a 3.9 million population.

There are more people in Manhattan than in the whole state of AR.

The NEWS made it sound like we were in the midst of an apocalypse.

 Except we weren’t.

100 dead in the State is not pretty.

Except we have more dead from diabetes each year than caught the Coronavirus.

We have at least that many murders from people being shot.

The NEWS isn’t screaming about the violence to scare us right now. They’re too focused on COVID.

 Cause that’s what we’re watching.

All that to say, things are okay. We’re going to be all right.

The new thing in the NEWS is meat shortages.  There are cattle and chickens and sheep.

There are trucks to haul them to the stores, and people to work in the stores to sell them.

Turns out, the bottleneck is TYSON and other large processing plants.

Not for lack of workers. They want more money from the government to make the workplace safe.  Safer.

Basically, big giant corporations are holding your pot roast hostage so they don’t have to invest profits in new safety guidelines. They want you to pay for it.

 Sigh.

Never underestimate the greed of fat cats.  We give more welfare to corporations in this country by a factor of 10 than we ever have to the people.

What can we do about it?

Big bold gestures, like turning off the news is a good start.

For my part, I’m going to give.

I have a new AUDIOBOOK out today for WARE THE CATS OF WAR.

It got caught up in a Coronavirus hold up and was under review for almost 60 days!

But the gremlins finally put it up and gave me codes this morning, and I wanted to share them with you.

If you like to listen to your books, or just want to give it a try, hit reply and send me an email to get a code for your free copy.

If you like the way an ereader feels in your hand, the book itself will be FREE this weekend, if you want to grab it.

I have more coming from the Marshal of Magic soon.

In the meantime, check out some other series, if you like.

I know it’s stressful right now.  So much is up in the air and we just don’t KNOW what’s going to happen.

I try to remember the future hasn’t happened yet, and the past is a ghost.  All we have is this moment, right now.

If you can fill it with a smile and a kind word for a loved one, you are winning.

If you add a book and a beer, you are ahead of the game.

I would tell you to be awesome, but there’s a 100% chance you already are.

 Cheers,

 Chris
