Sunday Harvest Fest in Hillcrest a fall festival success

The Harvest Fest in Hillcrest seemed like a huge success.

Huge crowds filled Kavanagh Blvd between the vendors lined up from the bandstand on one end to the Baggo contest on the other.

We made the route six times.

The first route was to check out the vendors on one side while we had a beer.

It was as much fun to check out all the doggos out for a crowded stroll, and the people watching was incredible.

The second route was back to the Baggo tournament to watch round one. This is the game where you throw beanbags at a hole in a board from twenty feet away, and it’s sort of hypnotic.

There has to be a great story about how a drinking game graduated to tailgating essential all the way up to organized tournament play.

It is a game best played with a drink in hand, and as it turns out, best watched as well.

We went back into the crowd to search for Christmas items from vendors, and found three favorite spots.  Rock Monkey, Hillcrest Waterbugs, and Rock City Outfitters.

We skipped the gift buying until later and grabbed lunch at El Mezcal, opting to skip the long lines at the food trucks.

I wasn’t that impressed.  The chorizo cheesdip was good, but the food seemed a little bland, and the atmosphere was like a fusion of tex mex meets modern.

It might be worth a return trip to try different items, or to grab drinks and the cheese dip again.

We missed a couple of qualifying rounds for the tournament while we ate and shopped.

We did manage to grab a couple of unique tee shirts and an awesome trucker hat for holiday gifts, plus a shirt for the Hogs losing game to Auburn next week.

Then it was back in line for another cold brew and hanging out to watch the finals of the baggo tournament.

We did grab a mojito from Terrazo and it was good enough that we’re planning to grab dinner and drinks there again in a few weeks.

Once the winner was crowned, we walked back to the car while the festival wrapped up and headed to our favorite watering hole for a couple of beers, wings and a very disappointing football game.

I want to mention the guys at Rock Monkey. These were some cool tee shirts and gear, and I put their pullover on my Christmas wish list.

All online company doing fun stuff, so I recommend checking them out.
