STAR SQUAD - Frag Chapter excerpt

CHAPTER ONE Peter Michaels stuffed a Boston cream donut into his mouth in three bites, then licked the chocolate icing from his thick fingers on his left hand while his right worked the mouse on a computer. Technically, he wasn’t supposed to have food in the analyst lab, but since he was the only analyst on duty who was going to tell on him.  Besides, he was putting in nine hours today, even though the director had cut back overtime, which meant he was working for free. Free meant he could eat a donut if he felt like it. PLANET 10 - The Dipole Series “So,” Tinker purred in a low smooth voice. “I’m gonna have to visit Uranus.” “Try saying it without wiggling your eyebrows,” said Mona Lisa. “Don’t think I can,” he raised his mason jar in a mock toast. “No love, just the thought of Uranus makes every part of me quiver.” “You’re not going to stop this, are you?” “Probably not,” he shrugged. “You could go with the smells-,” “The smell never bothered me.” “Or,” she ignored him. “You could have gone with so much more than juvenile jokes about my ass.” “What ass?” June Bug stuck her head through the cockpit door. “We’re going to visit Uranus,” Tinker said over his shoulder. “That is our mission.” “He’s making a play on words, the planet Uranus for your anus.” June Bug quirked up on eyebrow. “I see the confusion,” she corrected. “You are incorrect in your pronunciation.” “Your anus?” “It is Ur-a-nus.” “Yeah it is,” Tinker grinned. “That doesn’t even make sense.” ...

Good Eats Space Cafe - a Dipole Series sci fi novel chapter

GOOD EATS CAFÉ “You him?” “Him who?” Tinker shrugged. “I mean, I am a him. A he. All man. You can check if you want.” “You’re talking fast.” “I’m a fast talker,” Tinker leaned against the bar. He tried to make it look like he was relaxing, but really it was to hide more of his body. The guy sitting on the stool two spots down and on the other side of the counter was dark. He wore black clothes, dusky skin and the black eyes of a predator. He made people nervous. It must have been a vibe or something because even though the café was crowded, the stools on either side of him were both empty. Tinker couldn’t help but notice that it left a lot of room for the guy to draw either of the two blasters he wore on the side of his hips. “Fast talking is a sign of nerves,” the man said. He blinked slow. Tinker wondered if it was on purpose. Maybe it was, but he didn’t think so, because if it was on purpose, it made the dark eyed man look dim-witte...
