How do you like kid's stories?

“We’re going to build a fort,” said Sam. “What kind of fort?” his best bud Bart asked. “A great kind,” Sam said. He waved his hands in the air in the shape of a box. “First, we’ll build the walls as high as mountains.” “That’s pretty high.” “Then,” Sam continued. “We’ll add a bunch of windows so we can look out from inside.” “Can we build it by the ocean?” asked Bart. “Of course,” Sam answered. “We’ll build it by the water on three sides so no one can come in that way.” “Except pirates,” said Bart. “We can see them from the windows.” “We’ll have to prepare for pirates,” said Sam. “We can drop stuff on them?” “Like towels,” Bart said. “Towels?” Sam asked in wide eyed wonder. “Because towels soak up water. We throw the towels on the water and the pirate ships won’t float.” “That is an excellent idea,” said Sam. “And when the ships are on the bottom of the ocean and all the water is gone, we can go out and get all the treasure.” “Will there be a drawbridge...

Help me with the Battlefield Z series

Image
Help me with the Battlefield Z series When I wrote the first book in the Battlefield Z series, I didn't realize how many people would write to let me know how much it touched them.  Plus a lot said, "I don't normally read zombie books, but this isn't about them."  What? How can a zombie series be about something else?  BZ was about a Dad who would do anything for his kids, including fight his way across the country to protect them. I wrote it because my kids were growing up too fast, and maybe a little bit of Cat's in the Cradle syndrome. They got more independent, and I got sad and proud and full of regrets for all the things I couldn't do or couldn't provide. I put it all on the page in the first 9 books in the series and people liked it.  I went on to add 3 more books in the series, and planned out to twenty.  Plus there's a spin off series called Battlefield Z legends with 4 books published and 8 more planned. These new storie...

Ever heard about Nazi's in Los Angeles?

LA Nazi “You ready for this right?” “Do I look ready,” Warner licked his lips, wild eyes darting around the block. “Aright, mate, you look like you’re about to shit the bed. Take a breath.” Warner did. “Take another.” “This is crazy,” he whispered. “Trust me, it’ll help.” He took another deep breath through his nose and let it out of his mouth. “You got to remember, fucking Nazi’s, right? I mean, we fought a whole damn war about it.” “Yeah, I know, I know. But this is Los Angeles. There aren’t Nazi’s in La.” “There shouldn’t be. But a Nazi is like a damn rat. They show up all over the damn place. And they got a plague on ‘em, you trust me when I tell you. Only way to stamp out that plague is to stamp out the Nazi.” The streetlights shimmered in golden halos as the Santa Ana winds rattled the dry palm limbs against each other. It sounded like bones scraping together to Warner, and he wondered how he knew what that particular sound was. As far as ...

What did you think of The Martian?

I cut a potato in half. Have you seen THE MARTIAN? The Covid Crisis has me a little concerned about supply chains, and down a rabbit hole on conspiracy theories! Notice we’re not talking about Epstein and his NYC connections anymore? The supply chain though is real. I mean really real. Folks lining up in bread lines (which are modern food banks.) And all I can think about is Mamaw and Papaw. They weren’t preppers, but they were prepared for something like this. A big garden on the side of the house, Another large garden on land in the country. I’ve talked about growing beans (protein), and watermelons and cantaloupes and tomatoes.   Plus cucumbers. There were so many homemade pickles which taste 1000 times better than any classic Vlasik you could put in your mouth. I still have trouble eating store bought jelly and jam because Mamaw’s was soooo good. They didn’t grow potatoes though. I think because that was all they had to eat gro...

Lone Star Zombie - chapter sample from post apoc series

Lone Star Zombie - sample chapter insert I ran to fight the rage. There's no other way to describe it. Maybe the world was stacked against guys like me before. Maybe it was the result of the genetic lottery, just ill luck and chromosomes. I was mad. The Scottish temper would come up on me in am instant, like a spark on a keg of gunpowder. Guys like that didn't needs to be stronger, cause they were tougher, angrier and fought dirtier than anyone else. Back then, it meant biting my tongue, a variation of the grin and bear it lifestyle. The gurus would say, you only let people make you feel that way. Learn how to frame it. Control it. Running was the control. It was a nozzle on the flames, one I could control with sweat and distance and exhaustion. Until now. The world was custom made for guys like me, after the Z. The world was full of bad men who knew how to survive, how to hurt. How to kill. And I was one of them. We can go North, Brian ...
